| UPDATE :: 11.28.05 :: We have a winner! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After over 1,500 page views we have a winner... but before I announce it, I'd like to explain how we came to a result. As previously stated in the 'contest rules', four different categories were used to determine a final score. Those categories are votes cast, average rating of those votes, comments left and page views. Since we had ten entries this year, I ranked each turkey based on its place in each category and gave it a score ranging from 1 to 10. Therefore, the highest possible score is 40. (please tell me you've caught on by now) Finally, a fifth score is figured in based on each turkey's 'style' which was determined solely by me. Below is a chart that breaks down the scores. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| So congratulations Ava, you are the 2005 RV.com Handturkey Champion and will be receiving the 20 RVPR points and shirt with your turkey on it. In addition, LOH will receive 10 RVPR points and AJ 5. Everyone who entered also received 5 points just for turning in a sheet... so nobody really walked away as a total loser. Except for maybe phonda who received the worst 'style' score from me simply because I didn't want to see fellow staff member hankword end up in the basement by himself. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Thank you once again for your participation in what I am almost sure had to be the highlight of your 2005 Thanksgiving festivities. I'll be sure to post some pictures of Ava with her new shirt on as soon as her mom picks one out. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

rvining - 11/2/2005 3:45:29 PMhey kids... the handturkey contest is back. click for detials! or, if you have any questions reply here or send me a registered mail message. |
loh1974 - 11/2/2005 6:07:23 PMDoes holding a bottle of Wild Turkey in my hand qualify :) or a slice of Boars Head? |
loh1974 - 11/2/2005 6:08:09 PMBy the way.. Mrs. Tanner... Was that at Briarcrest by chance? I had a Mrs. Tanner... red hair... |
rvining - 11/2/2005 6:13:56 PMha! yes it was a briarcrest and she was the little lady with red 'hair'. (i'm pretty sure it was a wig) |
loh1974 - 11/2/2005 6:30:16 PMOh my gosh.. That is sooo funny... What is funnier is Westminster is in Ridgeway B'crest bldg where I was in ELEM school!! Halls seems smaller! how long were u at Briarcret.... should I move this to e mail :) to discuss |
aj - 11/3/2005 12:21:11 PMrich, i think you are remembering Mrs. Pierce; she was ancient when you had her and she was still around when i was in the fourth grade |
rvining - 11/3/2005 2:49:28 PMdo 4th graders even make handturkeys? if so, no wonder i got good grades at briarcrest. i'm pretty sure this was mrs. tanner. pierce had white hair, tanner had red (and taught 2nd grade - a more handturkey target rich environment) |
loh1974 - 11/3/2005 3:44:43 PMWhile my paretns were paying big bucks for Briarcrest we were making Hand Turkeys??? hmmm... now I know whats wrong with me... |
PHonda - 11/7/2005 11:08:01 PMI am in confusion on this contest. You make drawings on hand of rvining in resemblence of popular lunch meat. Is this a humor on bird flu? If so not as much for amusement here. Very serious dealings on that with Japan. Preparations ongoing. Explain? |
loh1974 - 11/8/2005 7:05:42 AMPhonda.. perhaps this rings a bell... 'Just do it' |
rvining - 11/9/2005 9:50:43 AMfirst of all mr honda, this contest is about 'thanksgiving' (google that) not bird flu. i was in no way attempting to take a crack at your countries issues with bird flu. remember, this site is about ME not YOU (hence the name). |
loh1974 - 11/9/2005 11:21:12 AMHey Rich... did u get my submission!!! Im pretty proud of it.... Is it within guidelines :) |
rvining - 11/9/2005 11:26:47 AMsubmission received... and it is very good. it does 'sort of' bend the rules a little, but i think it should be allowed. all submissions will be revealed after the 'due date' has passed. (i have 3 turned in so far) |
PHonda - 11/13/2005 11:31:49 PMGoogle on the Thanksgiving tells story of American conquest of own land. How does one conquest where he already is? And why a turkey needed to celebrate. Machine gun seem more appropriate. Or perhaps you could implode more structures. Ha Ha Ha. |
aj - 11/15/2005 10:18:33 PMsubmission received and hand delivered |
rvining - 11/16/2005 9:53:27 AMthe 3D nature of your turkey required hand delivery aj. it's nice, but you've got some pretty good competition. |
loh1974 - 11/16/2005 11:59:03 AMGobble Gobble..... so when exactly will they be 'posted'? |
rvining - 11/16/2005 1:45:42 PMall submissions must be in by midnight tonite... so whenever i can get them all scanned in after that. i'll send out a blast reg-mail. some of these are really good. |
aj - 11/17/2005 8:38:07 AMtime to post Rich...let the voting begin |
rvining - 11/17/2005 9:41:34 AMi'll scan all these things in and post tonite. everyone will receive a blast registered mail message once i have them up. very good work everyone. |
loh1974 - 11/17/2005 1:14:16 PMtonight? what are you doing at work today? :) |
rvining - 11/17/2005 3:26:28 PMGAME ON people... so vote, comment, rank and so-forth. You people are amazing. |
rvining - 11/25/2005 10:46:14 PMJust a reminder, polls close (not really, but i'll take a snapshot of the data) Monday when I get out of a staff meeting. However, it is starting to look like we have a clear winner when you look at the stats. |
rvining - 11/28/2005 11:32:01 AMPOLLS CLOSED : i've added up the points and have a winner. Scores will be posted later but here is what i did... everyone was ranked 1-10 in 5 categories (average rating, votes cast, comments left, page views, style). those ratings were added up and i have a list of 1-10 handturkeys that i'll release later today. |
rvining - 11/28/2005 10:58:21 PMTHE WINNER IS.... (hint, click this for a link to the winner) |
loh1974 - 11/29/2005 4:45:22 PMGo Ava Go Ava Go Ava |
rvining - 12/16/2005 3:00:34 PMspeaking of the handturkey thing... ava's shirt came in. i'll post the pictures over the weekend. |
